Length of Service Awards Program (LOSAP)

The MN Volunteer Firefighters Association (MSVFA) in conjunction with the Staffing for
Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) Grant awarded in 2009 to study
Recruitment & Retention issues announces the establishment of a Length of Service Awards
Program (LOSAP).
 
The MSVFA is in search of those MN volunteer firefighters who are currently active firefighters and
have served for 25 years or more in their current fire department. We are looking to recognize them
by presenting them with a $100 LOSAP cash award. This is limited to the first 120 qualified
applicants.
 
To qualify the firefighter must;
• Currently be an active member with the fire department
• Actively served for 25 years or more with the current fire department
• Complete the MSVFA Length of Service Award Program Application
• Answer the questions on the application
• Sign and date the application
• Have the length of service verified by signature of the Chief of the FD
• Submit the application and have it postmarked no later than May 1, 2013
 
This is an effort to recognize those MN firefighters who have proudly served their local community for
a quarter century or more.
 
 To get a LOSAP application the FF can;
• Go to the MSVFA website at http://msvfa.org and click on Length of Service Award Program on the home page
• Contact the MSVFA Secretary at msvfasec@msvfa.org and request a LOSAP application
 
 
The application must be postmarked no later than May 1, 2013 to be accepted. The MSVFA looks
forward to recognizing the long serving firefighters of Minnesota.
 
The MSVFA also encourages active and retired MN volunteer and paid-on-call firefighters to join the
MSVFA. Annual dues are $10 or we now offer a 3 year membership for $20. We are a young, growing
organization made up of active and retired MN firefighters. We are working on improving the benefit
package we offer our members. The dues assist us in serving the volunteer firefighter.
 
We have improved the MSVFA website at msvfa.org to include information on Recruitment &
Retention, Legislation, News & Events, Member Benefits and Training and Relief Association
Information.

The Membership Awards and Recognition Committee shall:

  1. Identify a program purpose.
  2. Define award themes & selection criteria.
  3. Set the final decision-making body for the award.
  4. Address the participation of past recipients.
  5. Define voting procedures.
  6. Ensure consistency in the voting/selection process.
  7. Establish a recognition program for the association.
  8. Determine the types of awards of the recognition program.
  9. Ensure compliance with the association's recognition program policies.
  10. The Membership Awards and Recognition Committee does not necessarily have to serve as the award selection committee.
