The NVFC and EMS
The National Volunteer Fire
Council (NVFC) represents the nation's
volunteer fire, rescue and emergency medical services (EMS) personnel.
A 2003 study by the National Association of State EMS Directors
estimated that 45 percent of EMS in this country is fire-based.
According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), 17,212
out of 30,400 fire departments in the United States, or 57 percent,
provide emergency medical services.
The NVFC plays a
significant role in promoting the interests of this
nation's volunteer EMS personnel. Some of the organization's activities
include:
EMS Committee. The NVFC's EMS Committee meets twice a year and monitors important EMS issues for the NVFC. Committee members have an EMS background and are made up of NVFC Board members.
